Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth raises record revenue

During the 2022 calendar year, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth raised a record $2,933,935 for local pediatric patients. This number is a 30 percent increase over 2021 and the highest yearly revenue for the nonprofit to date.

“This honor rests solely with the generosity of people in the Ozarks,” says Tim Siebert, executive director of CMN Hospitals at CoxHealth. “From campaigns at local retailers to generous individual donations and foundation grants, every dollar is significant and allows us to make a difference in the lives of local children.”

The donations made during 2022 will help children and families at all stages of their care journey. All donations benefit patients locally and went toward a variety of areas:

• 42 percent of donations went toward direct family assistance, education, patient support programs and more,
• 31 percent of donations helped with specialized pediatric medical equipment and facilities, and
• 27 percent of donations supported the C.A.R.E. mobile, a mobile health clinic providing health screenings and immunizations to children who have limited access to health care.

Specifically, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth supports the following:

• The Special Needs Fund offers direct financial assistance for special medical needs that are not covered by private insurance or Medicaid. This includes prosthetics, wheelchairs, leg braces, hearing aids, prescriptions, travel expenses for out-of-town doctor’s appointments and other needs.
• Family Care Grants provide financial assistance for families whose children have been hospitalized or need specialized therapy.
• Life-Saving Equipment provided to affiliate hospitals and ambulances.
• Educational programs including Wasted (an anti-drinking and driving campaign), Never Shake a Baby (to prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome), and CARDIAC Kids (a program that identifies area children at risk for developing heart disease or diabetes and teaches them how to live a healthy life). Other educational programs focus on car seat, water, bicycle, firearm, home, farm, and baby safety.
• The C.A.R.E. Mobile, a mobile health clinic providing health screenings and immunizations to children across the Ozarks.
• School-based virtual visits, which allows local kids to receive health care at school and get back to class more quickly.
• CoxHealth’s Child Life program, a team dedicated to helping create a sense of normalcy for kids who are hospitalized, thereby aiding the healing process.

Through these programs and because of donor support, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth impacts approximately 100,000 local patients in the Ozarks per year.

While these programs are established, the local CMN Hospitals office is always evaluating how it can adjust to better support patients and their families. For example, CMN Hospitals at CoxHealth has increased the annual amount that can be awarded directly to local families for medical expenses to better align with the financial realities currently faced by children’s caregivers.  

“When you combine inflationary pressures with the added costs of caring for a sick or injured child, the financial and emotional stress can be overwhelming,” says Siebert.  “Our role is to help ease the burden of families who have children suffering from all kinds of injuries and illnesses—from broken bones to brain tumors, birth defects and other life-threatening diseases.”

In addition to monetary donations, CMN Hospitals at CoxHealth also accepts stocks and bonds, real estate, personal property, life insurance policies, certificates of deposit, retirement funds, as well as bequests from estates. All donations year-round help local children, addressing pediatric healthcare needs across the region.

Because CoxHealth funds the operating costs of the local CMN Hospitals office, 100% of gifts and proceeds benefit children in the Ozarks.
